Breck Epic

In an attempt to blog more I think I have something worth presenting, for comparison or general purpose interest. Here is my data from the Breck Epic 2010. Awesome Race. I thought about dropping out on Stage 4 but then Stage 5 and 6 were a couple of my best stages, right up there with stage 2. By that I mean, no mechanicals (flat tires) and I felt good at the end and was able to ride hard. Stage 4 I was purely riding to get to the finish line and could have cared less about my position for the day or GC. I felt like I pretty much was giving up. Note that my best stages are also generally shorter stages. Here is my data. I uploaded it to training Peaks because they make it easy to digest the info and have great presentation.

Stage 1

Stage 2

Stage 3

Stage 4

Stage 5

Stage 6

  1. Yes, Stage 4 was definitely the hardest! I had a similar experience and was also just trying to make it to the finish line. I started to feel great on Stages 5 and 6 too. Wasn’t that decent off the back of Wheeler brutal! Looking forward to doing it better next year, hope you are to.

  2. It helps a lot to know the courses. Stage 4 was the only one that was completely new. I did the race in '09 so I knew what to expect from the other stages. I think next year I'll back off a little on the first climb. I tried to hang with the fast guys and ultimately made it hard to recover the rest of the day. And I can't hang with those guys anyway so why burn up trying.
